Suzy Travis is young, enthusiastic, and motivated - but inexperienced, somewhat naive, and a teacher. Straight out of training college, she is thrown into a characterless, unfeeling comprehensive; Galfast High.

The teaching staff are, to put it lightly, absolutely bonkers. The children are unruly. But the deputy head, Mr Slatt, eclipses them all.

Our Review: Very funny. Very, very funny. Highly recommended to anyone who gets the chance to see it. A refreshing change from most British sitcoms of the past decade or so.

Due to the positive reaction of the studio audience during recordings, the second series was commissioned before the first had aired. However, the first series was received quite poorly by the critics, who identified some similarities to Fawlty Towers. As a result of the resultant poor ratings, when the second series did arrive it was shunted into a graveyard slot on Wednesday.

This second series evolved to become slightly more oriented around Slatt than Travis, but the show remained funny.

More farce in its humour and set-up than traditional sitcom, Chalk was un-PC in the extreme, fast-paced, and utterly, hilariously, ridiculous.
