Mark's inappropriate hand placing leave him in a bad position with the object of his desire, Sophie.
Later the guys, who have fallen out over Mark laughing at Jez's music track, are invited to a party at Toni's. Whilst Mark tries to put the moves on Toni, Jez is putting the moves on her sister who, thanks to Mark, he incorrectly believes has cancer.
Jez makes a number of cancer faux-pas and Mark strikes out with Toni leaving the pair ridiculed. Mark has a violent outburst against some children who have been bullying him which is witnessed by Sophie.

Mark decides that Jeremy needs a job, because he is behind with his rent, so he gets him a job application for JLB Finance. Mark then goes to work to carry on his flirtation with Sophie via post-it notes cartoons.
That evening Mark makes a kak-handed phone call to Sophie. Jeremy turns up for his interview and tries to come across as an 'unemployable freak' which helps him achieve his aim of not getting the job.
Mark experiences further awkwardness with Sophie having to disown the previous night's phone call saying that Jeremy sometimes makes him say things 'with a breadknife'.

Jeremy meets Mark in the supermarket and asks him to go to a party. Mark doesn't want to go having been rebuffed earlier by Sophie when he asked her for a date.
Mark decides to go to the party (with his groceries) and meets a teenage girl, Valerie, who invites him to the 'Laserbowl'. They are joined by Jeremy and Toni at the bowling alley where they bump into Sophie and the man she has chosen to go on a date with, Mark's work rival Jeff.
Toni drags Jeremy back to her flat and, as they are becoming intimate, her estranged husband appears.
Meanwhile back at the bowling alley Mark starts to behave oddly, throwing his groceries down the lane at the pins. Sophie leaves with Jeff, Mark brings Valerie home and goes to bed with her. Next door Toni is using noisy sexual intercourse with Jeremy as means of getting back at her husband.

Mark attends a work conference and in the process makes a new friend, Alan Johnson, which upsets the 'El Dude' partnership. This forces Jeremy to consider who could replace Mark as flatmate and best friend. Super-Hands is the potential replacement, but he doesn't match up as well.
Mark grows a moustache, like his new hero, Johnson whilst Jeremy is haunted by flashbacks to 'the one bad thing' that happened when he was wrecked with Super-Hands.

Mark is up for promotion at work, but loses out to Sophie. Jez starts a new job at the music studio Super-Hands works at, although he's only allowed to work on reception.
Mark plays Sophie at badminton. Jez takes Toni to work to impress her, but Super-Hands ends up sleeping with her. Mark is going mad due to missing out on promotion, ending up in therapy.
Jez is also going mad over the Toni-Super-Hands relationship so they decide to sort each others problem, although it backfires with Mark being shot by an air-gun and Jez getting pepper-sprayed in the eyes.

Jeremy's uncle Ray, is dying in a hospice. Jeremy decides to deal with his uncle's death by taking advantage of Toni. Or at least he tries too. Meanwhile Mark finally gets Sophie on a date... at the funeral.
Jeremy causes a stir at the funeral by standing up for Ray's faith, much to the annoyance of one of his aunts. However, it goes down well with everyone else. As Mark gets to his chance with Sophie he begins to worry about his large testicles.
Jeremy finds out that the cause of Ray's death is a hereditary disease. This pushes Jeremy to the edge, ruining Mark and Sophie's weekend away, as they feel obliged to invite him. Jeremy gets drunk and tries it on with Soph, but she turns him down.
Mark finds Jez passed out in the living room whilst going to get some condoms, thinking he has committed suicide. This ruins Mark's chance of sleeping with Sophie, ending up in the friend zone. Jeremy tells Toni he is dying to take advantage of her sympathy. It works this time.
