Cockney wide-boy, Alfred Wilcox, works as a salesman for a plastics firm. He values his independence and will take any short-cut to get to the top. The best things in his life are money, wealth and prosperity and he doesn't care in which order they may come. He also values his freedom and whilst his fiancée of 11 years, Mabel Pollard, also works in the same office, she is fast losing hope of them ever getting married. Our Review: As a serious actor, Harry H Corbett had accidentally stumbled into the world of situation comedy at the start of the decade. By the end of it he was stuck with being recognised as Harold Steptoe and he would never shake that expectation from viewers. This comedy was never going to help and, despite the ever reliable June Whitfield playing his love interest, it disappeared without too much regret. |
