He soon learns that Terry gave her his address and the young lady is coming over to see him and bringing a friend. Bob is persuaded to make up a foursome with a heavy heart ... 2. Bob is despondent after another failed romance but Terry has heard it all before and, when two young ladies enter the cafe they are in, Terry persuades a reluctant Bob to give dating another go. Freda, the new canteen manageress, is causing quite a stir and Terry fancies his chances with a more mature woman. He bets Bob he will be going out with her by the end of the day and is full of himself when she asks him to do a job for her that evening. Bob and Terry are recovering from the traditional Christmas Eve lunch time drink at the factory before going out to the pub for the evening. Bob reminisces about childhood and reading Rupert annuals and Edward Trunk - but Terry thinks it's Edward the Elephant and a row ensues. The rest of the evening is spent reading Rupert annuals to find out who is right and Audrey takes advantage and gives them baby-minding duties as well. Series 2 (1965)1. Bob and Terry have a date with a couple of nurses who are leaving the area in a few days time. Thinking they may be on to a sure thing, they try to find a place to take them to but draw a blank. They finally get a break when they meet Jack in the pub and they offer to babysit for him. It never pays to criticise someone else's singing if you can't sing yourself. Terry and Bob are challenged to compete in a pub talent night after making fun of Jack's drunken singing on his 42nd birthday. Bob has a hangover and the events of the party the night before are a complete blank. When he gets to work people are congratulating him on his engagement to Helen - and then it dawns. He proposed to her at somebody else's engagement party and now the rumours are rife that she must be pregnant. How will Bob tell Helen that he has made a mistake without losing face?! 4. While visiting a department store, Bob and Terry try to impress two pretty demonstrators by buying up most of their products. Alas, they succeed in their goal of getting a date but have spent all their money achieving it. To make matters worse, the girls suggest a series of expensive locations for their night out and the lads spend more time checking their wallets than chatting up the girls. 5. After blowing all their money on the two demonstrators, Bob and Terry have to come up with ways of paying for their planned holiday. Bob has ideas of going abroad this year so they take a trip to the job centre to find part-time work to supplement their income ... 6. A wedding for one of Terry's relatives causes tongues to wag - "when are you and Bob going to get married, isn't it about time?". They are more interested in the two young bridesmaids but they do reflect on how all the people from school have got married. "It wasn't so bad when the girls you were at school with got married but now it's the blokes"! They start to feel very old - and Cyril isn't helping either ... Series 3 (1966)1. Bob's idea of a weekend away starts to interest Terry when he is told the place they are going to is full of beatniks - to him that means free love! They decide to hitch-hike but Terry gets blisters and complains all the way there. When they arrive they find the place they were going to stop in has been demolished and it is too late to get a bus or a train home. Bob has a dilemma - he is dating 17 year old Lorna Perrin and gets on well with her middle-class parents. Next door to the Perrin's is a vile old man who wears braces and spits - he is staying there while the owner is in Canada. Bob has bought a second-hand scooter and dreams of Sunday morning rides to the country with a "bird" on the back. As he is still a learner, Terry helps him to come to terms with the Highway Code but when it comes to the practical Bob has a problem with his emergency stop! 4. Bob and Terry are at the local dance hall and having little success finding a dance partner. They decide to split up to change their luck and Bob strikes lucky with Ursula who he arranges to meet the following day. Bob has had chicken pox and Terry has kept away from his friend for 3 weeks in order not to catch it. When he does pluck up the courage to see him, he finds Bob has grown a beard and this new facial decoration causes problems at work. After friends pull out of a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads, Bob persuades Terry to take up the offer when he explains that it would be a great way to meet girls. So it seems as Terry makes a date with Sally who runs the boatyard but Bob scuppers his plans when he launches the boat earlier than expected ... Terry is determined to take revenge. 7. While they await the start of a mate's stag night, Terry and Bob are pleased to see Duggie, an old friend who is now married with a baby. It seems that Bob is tiring of his home town and wants to join the army in order to see the world. Terry thinks he is just down because Thelma Chambers has dumped him but is surprised when Bob goes through with it. Terry struggles to adjust to his best friends departure and eventually joins up himself ... but he is in for a very big surprise! |
